Fireside Chats - Tattoo Artist Hek Valdez

Our Fireside Chat program introduces students to careers with live professionals in the field, allows students to interact and ask questions for a deeper understanding of, and the path the presenter followed to arrive at their profession.

Hector “Hek” Valdez is a talented, local tattoo artist in Huntington Beach. Hek recently spoke to our students about what it takes to become a tattoo artist, the good, the bad and everything in between. He shared his life, the difficulties and the benefits of the pathway he took, the skills he developed in order to become successful, and his passion and drive to continue to excel in his profession. Hek discussed with students that becoming an apprentice was the path he chose, and the one he recommends, characteristics and qualities of a tattoo artist to look for when seeking an apprenticeship and, how to create a portfolio. Hek also shared some of his favorite stories, which the students truly enjoyed. We are truly grateful to Hek for the generosity of his time and for sharing his passion as a tattoo artist!

We would also like to give a shout out to Jackie Ramirez and Chick-fil-A on Beach Boulevard in Westminster for donating dinners for this Fireside Chat.
