Life Skills - Essential Oils for Health

Our Life Skills class with volunteer Lisa Burke this week focused on the natural benefits of essential oils and practical ways to enhance wellness. Lisa shared simple, effective ways to use oils for various needs, including focus, allergies, sleep, stress, energy, and pain relief.

Lisa explained how different oils can help in specific ways:

  • Lavender: Promotes relaxation and better sleep (apply to your pillow or wrists).

  • Lemon: A natural antimicrobial that enhances focus and can instantly elevate your mood.

  • Peppermint: Supports sinuses, eases pain and headaches, and acts as a mood booster.

  • Rosemary: Relieves sinus pain, supports overall pain relief, and energizes the mind.

  • Peppermint + Rosemary: A powerful combination for boosting energy and memory, especially helpful for finals or studying.

  • Lavender + Rosemary: A calming duo that helps with relaxation and better sleep.

  • Lemon + Peppermint: A refreshing blend to quickly shift your mood and keep you alert.

Lisa very generously provided each student with a bundle of essential oils, for them to create their own personalized essential oil spray and rollerball, tailored to their specific needs and preferences, making the class interactive and fun.

In addition to essential oils, Lisa introduced the students to grounding techniques for peace and focus:

  • The 5-4-3-2-1 method, which involves breathing deeply and focusing on your senses.

  • The heart-beating method, a technique to reconnect with your body’s rhythm.

  • The humming technique, which promotes calmness and relaxation.

  • The numbers game, a fun way to center your thoughts.

We’re making peace, focus, and mental well-being the cornerstone of 2025, and tonight’s class was a perfect start toward that goal!
