Student Health - Vision Screening & Prescription Eyewear

Self-sufficient is defined as capable of providing for one's own needs…the first step in this process is identifying what those needs are. For most of the students we serve at Robyne’s Nest, regular health examinations have not been a part of their lives, such that they do not understand the value of health screening and preventative care for their personal wellbeing.

In January our students received free vision screenings to assess their need for prescription eyewear, and to begin educating them on the importance of taking personal responsibility in managing their future eye care, as well as general health. A huge thank you to ECN Purpose and Dr. Jacqueline Vu & Team for taking care of our students, and their wonderful mission to bring vision care to people who may not otherwise have services available to them!

And, in early March, Dr. Mellissa Zhao of Pacific Optometry Group, accompanied by her optometric assistant, guided each student with frame selection and with ordering their prescription eyeglasses. Dr. Zhao and the ECN Purpose team provided their services and the eyewear to our students at no cost…we are truly grateful for their generosity and compassion for our students, and that they are a wonderful part of our benevolent community!

Our Robyne’s Nest mission is to provide the support and resources our at-risk and homeless students need to complete high school and pursue a path to self-sufficiency. Learning to take responsibility of their personal wellbeing is a huge step along this path. Breaking cycles and changing lives.
