Life Skills Series - Groceries & Cooking on a Budget
Our Life Skills Series - Groceries and Cooking on a Budget allows our students to learn from different volunteer instructors how to meal plan, shop, stretch ingredients, learn new cooking techniques/skills, and prepare a variety of healthy, budget friendly meals.
Last week, volunteer Lisa Fabricant guided students in preparing spaghetti pasta with shrimp, roasted cherry tomatoes, broccoli and herbs, making garlic french bread and a delicious dessert of pan-roasted peaches, vanilla ice cream and fresh berries, YUM!
Lisa has an extensive background in behavioral science and nutrition. She was a dietitian, and director of foods and nutrition services at school districts for 20 years.
On a deeper level, the opportunity to spend time together cooking, enjoying the “fruits of their efforts”, cleaning up, and just hanging out promotes camaraderie and confidence in these teens…another step forward in breaking their cycles and changing their lives!
