May Mental Health Awareness Month Resources
“Whether we share resources, encourage others to seek help or simply are there for someone when they need us, we instill hope and can help other to reach out when they need it most (SAMHSA).”
Self-Efficacy & Teen Mental Health
Self-efficacy is the belief we have in ourselves and our ability to succeed. Negative self-perception is common in young adults, is strongly correlated with depression, and is greater in homeless teens.
Money Without Management Skills
Assisting homeless students financially is necessary, though providing the resources, guidance and structure for properly managing the money is essential in breaking the cycle of dependency, and putting the student on a path to self-sufficiency.
Pet Therapy and Teen Mental Health
The mental and emotional health benefits of petting and interacting with animals include decreasing anxiety, promoting relaxation, and elevating mood.
Physical Activity & Teen Mental Health
Lack of physical activity in teens contributes to stress, anxiety, depression and other mental health issues. Decreased activity levels in at-risk and homeless teens are often more prevalent, with greater mental health consequences.
Teens and Sleep
Sleep deprivation is prevalent in teens, and can have detrimental effects on both physical and mental health. For at-risk and homeless students these effects are magnified, with devastating consequences.
